4.04 Eggtown (Kate)

On the island:

Locke goes to visit Ben in his cell in the basement of Ben’s house. Locke gives him a couple of eggs to eat for breakfast telling him these are the last of the eggs. Locke asks Ben some questions but he won’t answer. Ben mocks Locke for coming to him for advice since he can’ t seem to reach Jacob any more. Locke slams the breakfast tray against the wall.

Kate and Claire share coffee when Sawyer comes up to talk. He is upset that Kate left the day before. He tries to make some amends, but she asks him to leave. She wants to talk to Miles so she cons Hurley into telling her that he is going to take breakfast to Miles at the boat house. She makes a deal with Miles. She will give him a minute with Ben, if Miles will answer her questions.

Kate questions Miles about her situation at home (ie off the island). Miles wants to meet Ben first. When they meet Miles makes Ben a deal. $3.2 M to say he is dead (he will have to take care of Charlotte too). Miles knows Ben is rich and powerful. He treats Kate and the losties as stooges. Kate breaks up the meeting ,but gets her answer. Miles knows all about her being a fugitive for killing her stepdad, and getting caught in Australia. Locke catches them as they are leaving Ben’s cell. He orders Kate to leave the barracks. She goes to Sawyer to tell him. They spend a night together. In the morning Sawyer and Kate talk about a family. Sawyer does not want one, but maybe Kate does. She gets mad at him after he tells her she will be back once she gets mad at Jack. She slaps him and leaves Sawyer (maybe for good) to return to the beach. Locke has Miles tied up again in the boat house. Locke has learned their must be punishment for those he break his rules. He puts a granade in Miles mouth (probably fake) and tells him to keep holding the trigger in his mouth and then leaves Miles to consider his fate.

Miles and Charlotte play some kind of mind reading game (similar to a scene from ghostbuster by the way) Miles is disappointed that he only guesses two out of three cards.

Jack tries all day to call the freighter. He gets Charlotte to use the emergency frequency. Regina on the freighter says that the helicopter has not arrived even though it left hours ago. What happened to those on board like Sayid and Desmond?

Flash forward:

Kate gets out of a car. A man who is his lawyer tells her it is okay to go straight into the courthouse. She is being arraigned for what she did. The court decides to lock her up without bail. Her mom is the star witness, she will testify against Kate. Her lawyer urges her to take a deal 8 years for 4 years. Kate won’ t take it. She meets her mom. She decides not to testify against Kate because it has been 4 years since the incident and she has had a change of heart. Her mom wants to see Kate’s son. Kate says no.

In the trial they call Jack as a witness. He lies about Kate saving Jack from the drowning and for nursing his wounds and saving other people. Kate wants him to stop (she does not want him to lie for her so she stops him from saying anything else). The prosecution asks if Jack still loves Kate. Jack says he used to love her but no more. The prosecution has to make a deal when Kate’s mom refuses to testify. They will let her go if she stays in the state in will agree to 10 years probation. Kate does. As she leaves through the garage Jack is there to meet her. He seems to make up a story about just finding out what happened but I think he was waiting for her all along. He tells her he does still love her. Kate asks if he will go back to meet her son. Jack wants to do coffee. Kate knows that for them to really restart the relationship he needs to deal with her and her son. But she understands why we is uncomfortable. Did Claire die because of something Jack did? Kate leaves the offer open for Jack. She goes home to her house and finds her son upstairs sleeping. She picks him up and calls him Aaron.

Analysis:

This was a good change of pace episode after the last few action packed ones. Locke is turning into a dictator. He wants to protect the island now, even more than he wants his friendships with Kate and the other Losties. He banishes people if he does not agree with them. He wants to control everyone and threatens to blow up Miles for escaping from the boat house.

Kate is planning to make her choice to leave or stay on the island. She has nothing to go back to, since she finds out from Miles that they are still after her for killing her father. She tests Sawyer to see if he really loves her. Sawyer says he will protect her but he is not interested in moving their relationship forward. She slaps him for accusing her of divided loyalties between Sawyer and Jack. Going to whichever man who does not disown her. Her loyalty to Aaron was amazing. Kate is willing to settle down when she has someone who really needs her.

Jack is lying about the Oceanic Six being saved from out of a watery crash. Kate hates to hear him tell this lie again at her trial. Jack is doing it to help get her out of a prison sentence, but Kate does not want this kind of help. Jack refuses to pick up again on their relationship because he feels guilty for whatever happened that separated Claire from Aaron. His need to fix something that can’t be fixed is clearly getting in the way.

Dan Faraday wants to stay on the island to heal illness he might have. Miles wants to stay to blackmail Ben for 3.2 million dollars and con the freighter crew just like he conned the grandmother in the 4.02 Confirmed Dead episode for drug money.

Questions:

  • What could have happened to Claire to separate her from Aaron? Jack seems to have somehow caused it.
  • Why 3.2 million dollars? Ben must be very rich and powerful in the outside world.
  • What happened to the helo with Desmond and Sayid? They must have strayed off course (the preview for next week hints at this).
  • Kate’s mom has hung on to life for many years even though she was given just 6 months to live. Why? Is she being treated just like Juliet’s sister was treated for cancer by Ben’s group.
  • How does Kate know she is not pregnant and will not be pregnant? Does she know something about the future?

  1. Hi guys

Good episode, was surprised about Aaron, judging by his age though, they can’t have been rescued too recently as a child generally can’t speak until they are about 1 and Aaron is only about 2 months old right now (just a guess?).

I suspect that Claire was wounded on the island and a split second decision had to be made and Kate took Aaron to safety. Do you guys remember what exactly Charlie said about his vision about Claire’s rescue, i’m sure he did say that he saw Claire and Aaron on the helicopter? Again, not too sure!

Also Ben’s character takes another interesting turn but I suppose we could have guessed that he was rich and powerful, otherwise he could not finance Sayid to go around killing for him whilst still being able to travel all over the world. Also I think that Miles will not get his millions as Ben comes back to ‘normality’ so whoever wants him probably knows he is alive and well.

TLE, your theoires are good, I didn’t think of half the things you did!

p.s. I said I can’t wait until Fridays because the earliest time I can watch Lost is on Fridays as it is not aired in the UK until Sundays and I can’t wait that long!

  2. hi!
im in a rush so ill only answer tles questions:

    TLE’s questions:
What could have happened to Claire to separate her from Aaron? Jack seems to have somehow caused it.

MAYBE JACK LEFT HER ON THE ISLAND, OR ELSE SHE DIED… ANOTHER POSSIBLE THING MIGHT BE THAT CLAIRE AND AARON DIED, KATE HAD A BABY WITH SAWYER AND NAMED IT AARON, AND THEN JACK DOESNT WANT TO SEE IT COS HE HATES SAWYER….

Why 3.2 million dollars? Ben must be very rich and powerful in the outside world.

    IM SURE HE IS 😉
    JACOB MADE HIM POWERFUL

What happened to the helo with Desmond and Sayid? They must have strayed off course (the preview for next week hints at this).

THEY PROBABLY DIDNT FOLLOW THE COORDINATES…. THE HELICOPTER HAD LITTLE FUEL REMEMBER… SO IT MIGHT STOP WORKING…

Kate’s mom has hung on to life for many years even though she was given just 6 months to live. Why? Is she being treated just like Juliet’s sister was treated for cancer by Ben’s group.

COULD BE… DIDNT THINK OF THAT

How does Kate know she is not pregnant and will not be pregnant? Does she know something about the future?

    ERM… GIRL STUFF MAYBE 🙂
