There’s No Place Like Home (Part 1)

Here is what we learned in part 1 of this 3 part finale to Season 4:

Off Island:

The Oceanic 6 use a cover story to tell the media a lie about what really happened on the island.

The relatives of the O6 meet them in Honolulu at a military base.

Sayid reunites with Nadia, Jack meets his mom, Hurley his parents, Sun her parents, Aaron/Kate have no one to greet them (Kate’s mom was really sick last we saw of her).

The cover story is basically that the plane crashed in the water nearby a small island near Sunda. A typhoon washed a small power boat and supplies on shore after 108 days. They entered the life boat which carried the 5 (Kate was “pregnant” at the time) to a larger island where they were picked up by the Coast Guard.

Hurley gives up his 150 million and goes home to find his house empty. Inside is a coconut (shades of Dave his imaginary friend who threw a coconut at him on the island). He goes searching for the intruder only to find his family and friends there who are throwing him a surprise party. His dad gives hims a special gift. It is the old Camaro they worked on when Hurley was a boy,but the car’s odometer shows “the numbers”. Hurley freaks out and goes running off down the street.

A few months later we see a very preggers Sun climbing the steps to her father’s office. He is in a meeting with a few men who are talking about someone who used 5 bank accounts to invest a lot of money in their company. Sun’s father wants to know who it is. He is about to find out. Sun talks to him and he asks about the baby. But Sun says her father never cared about the baby or Jin. In fact her father hated Jin and turned him into an “enforcer” a violent man who ruined their marriage. Sun has come for her revenge. She has bought a controlling interest in her father’s company. She says her father caused the death of Jin along with another man (presumably Charles Widmore or maybe Michael).

On Island:

Jack has a memorial service for his dad with Kate/Aaron, Sayid/Nadia and Hurley attending (Sun is probably back in Korea by now). At the service he meets a stranger who says she knew Jack’s dad. She says he was in Sydney to see his daughter while she was in the hospital. She is the mother and Jack’s dad was the father, and the girl was on flight 815. Her name was Claire. Jack is horrified at the news.

On the beach, Miles uses the sat phone to call Keany and the helicopter group. They say they are going to the Orchid station. Daniel knows the Orchid was part of the second protocal or the backup plan if they can’t get Ben Linus. Daniel tells Charlotte they must get off the island now (the inference is that the Orchid station somehow is a danger to everyone on the island). Keamy said he was going to torch the island, so maybe that means the Orchid has a self destruct mechanism.

Jack and Kate use the sat phone to track down the helicopter (Jack still thinks the helo is the means to get everyone rescued). On the way they meet Sawyer, Aaron and Miles. They have lost Claire (we saw her last show, but Sawyer does not know that). He warns them that Keamy is going to kill everyone on the island, just like Locke suspected. Jack sends Kate back to the beach while he and Sawyer go looking for the helo.

Sayid uses the inflatable boat to go to the island from the freighter. He tells everyone to start leaving the island using the boat. Daniel knows the way and takes the first group, including Jin and Sun with Aaron. Kate and Sayid go after Jack to warn him (Kate can use her tracking skills to find them). Instead they find the Others led by Richard Alpert. They take them hostage and lead them somewhere (the Orchid or the Temple, not sure). Where was Cindy by the way?

Jack and Sawyer find Lapidus handcuffed to the helo. He tells them they have to leave now before the militia get back. But Sawyer says they are after Ben, and Hurley is with him. Jack says “bleep” and they go out to find him. They don’t care too much about Locke anymore.

In the final segment, Ben leads Hurley and Locke to an rocky hiding place where he pulls out a mirror (and some 15 year old crackers which Hurley eats). He uses the mirror to signal someone on the mountain. Who are you signalling, Locke asks. Who do you think says Ben. (I am hoping it’s Mikhail, but he may mean Jacob. I don’t think it is Richard since he was in the jungle). They climb the mountain, but when they get there Keamy is waiting for them. Ben has a plan (He always has a plan, he tells Locke). He wants Locke and Hurley to go to the greenhouse and find the secret elevator that will take them down to the real Orchid station. Ben then walk right into Keamy’s trap (on purpose) to give himself up. Keamy pistol whips Ben followed by… LOST.

Thoughts:
Here are some quick thoughts, more to follow later:

The title of this episode is what Dorothy says to the Wizard right before she taps together her ruby slippers sending her from Oz back to her home in Kansas.

Jack knows he needs to lie about what happened on the island. Hurley still thinks the numbers are cursing him and also is afraid that “Dave” his imaginary friend is back to haunt him. Sun totally surprised me by getting back at her father (although she also shares the blame) for the events leading to Jin’s death. (yes it seems that he really is dead and not just left behind on the island). Sawyer actually cares about what happens to Hurley so he goes on a rescue mission with Jack. When was the last time those to have been working on the same side? Sayid and Nadia finally reunite (which is great but we know this will not last as she is killed in a couple of years). Everyone believes that Kate was pregnant before she got Oceanic 815, so who was the supposed father? I wonder what is Ben’s plan now that he is captured? And what is Locke supposed to do once he gets to the Orchid underground station? Who planted the C4 explosive in the boat? Will Jin die trying to disarm it? And what about Desmond? Sayid is saved we know, but what about Des?

In two weeks we will probably get most of our answers including the big one, Who is in the coffin?
Here are my possibilities: Ben, Michael, Christian, Desmond. What do you think? Leave your comments below or you can send an email with comments to tlepodcast@yahoo.com. And stay tuned for the podcast coming soon. TLE

  1. I don’t think the person in the coffin is Ben, Christian or Desmond but Michael is still a good possibility. It could also be Juliet, or someone from the freighter like Miles or Faraday but I probably not someone else from flight 815. Had it been another Lostie other than Michael, they would probably have been part of the Oceanic 6 and also Kate would have gone to the funeral.

One of the guys at the press conference was questioning Kate about being 6 months pregnant when getting on the plane. Perhaps he’s with Widmore or saw footage from the Sydney airport and could tell she couldn’t have been that far along.

I think that once Locke gets into the Orchid station he’s supposed to find 2 rabbits with the same number and slam ’em together.

I think the C4 on the boat was placed there under Widmore’s orders. I think the device strapped to Keany’s arm in the previous episode is a detonator which is sending/receiving a signal to the ship. I think it might also detect his pulse and will detonate the explosive if his pulse stops. That’s why he was so confident with the captain when he showed it on his arm at the standoff. I also think that someone on the island is going to kill Keany which will then detonate the explosives on the boat killing most of the people on there. (Sun and Aaron will already be off at the time.)

Who was Ben signalling with the mirror? Richard Alpert or somebody at the Orchid we haven’t seen yet? They could be underground waiting or might have been killed by Keany.

I’m still curious about why they have the story that there were 8 survivors of the crash but 2 died afterwards. There has to be a reason they don’t just say there were only 6.

I thought it was Faraday using the Sat phone, not Miles. They also didn’t call. They made a point to show the sat phone saying ‘Monitor Only’ or something to that effect. They were just eavesdropping.

  2. Hi! Excellent job on the last podcast. You guys are sounding different… What is it?

I’m sure that they said that only 8 survived, as since the island is moved, and can’t be found with the bearing on 305, no one will believe that they were on an island which pulls trees out of their roots, has a smoke monster, and others a are living on it…

I don’t have much to say about this episode…

The reason why I love Lost so much is that although we know who survives, we have no clue how 6 people, who are all in bad positions, can leave together. There is Sayid and Kate, with the awesome others, whom I loved seeing again, but ill get into that later… Jack, who is with Sawyer, going to find Hurley? What do you think they are going to do? Hurley, who is with Locke and Ben, in the worst position of them all, and Sun and Aaron, who are on a freighter, full of explosives.

This has nothing to do with this episode, but I’ve been thinking about it all the time. How did Claire and Charlie get back together at the end of season 2? What had Charlie done to make Claire change her mind? I can’t remember this.

The biggest question to this episode in my opinion is; What is Ben’s plan, and who was he communicating with? Richard and the others?

I was so happy that we saw the others again this season. I love seeing Richard in his island clothes.  I hope they are going to be in a lot of the next episode. I’m nearly positive that Ben was communicating with them, telling them that Sayid and Kate were approaching somewhere that he doesn’t want them to know about…

I guess that the reason Jack didn’t want to see Aaron, in Kate’s flash-forward, of another episode is that he thinks that it’s his fault that Claire is still on the island, and that he didn’t go looking for her.

Sawyer was a gentleman to go with Jack. His character has really evolved throughout the seasons.

I agree with Lee (the comment above) and think that the thing strapped to Keamy’s arm is something which will detonate the explosives on the ship. I really don’t want Desmond to die… but I have a strong feeling he will.

I’m guessing that Jin really does die, as there is no way how he can get back to the island.

I doubt it is Ben in the coffin, as he has proved to be immortal (to me anyway :p ) and he is too cool to die. No matter how hard I think about it, I can’t get to any conclusion about who is in it. It has to be someone Jack cares slightly about, and no one else, including Kate, cares about. The more I think of it, the more sense it makes that it is Ben, but I’m sure the writers would have wanted us to believe it was Ben, so I think it’s someone else.

I am sure Locke will know what to do as he is special 

    Bye , Chiara

  3. Oh, why didn’t Kates dad go to see her. do you suppose he is dead? we had seen him, he is a soldier or something.. and he looked asif he cared for her.

  4. i have a feeling that keamy takes ben off the island, locke moves it, and then ben cant find it again.

    1. we never see flashforwards of ben on the island.
    2. in the conversation between ben and widmore, in the future, (see below for whole conversation);

Widmore: You’ll never find her. That island’s mine Benjamin. It always was. It will be again.
Ben: But you’ll never find it
Widmore: Then I suppose the hunt is on for both of us.
Ben: I suppose it is. Sleep tight Charles.

Ben would not have said ‘then i suppose the hunt is on for both of us’ would he?

please tell me what you think

    ________________________________________
    (Ben: Wake up Charles.
Widmore: I wondered when you were going to show up. I see you’ve been getting more sun.
Ben: Your rock is lonely this time of year. When did you start sleeping with a bottle of scotch by the bed?
Widmore:When the nightmares started. Have you come here to kill me Benjamin?
Ben: We both know i can’t do that.
Widmore: Then why are you here?
Ben: I’m here Charles because you murdered my daughter.
Widmore: Don’t stand there looking at me with those horrible eyes of yours and lay the blame of the death of that poor girl on me, when we both know very well I didn’t murder her at all Benjamin. You did.
    Ben: No, that’s not true.
Widmore: Yes Benjamin, it is. You creep into my bedroom in the dead of night, like a rat, and have the audacity to pretend that you’re the victim? I know who you are boy, what you are. I know that everything you have you took from me. So, once again I ask you, why are you here?
Ben: I’m here Charles to tell you that I’m going to kill your daughter. Penelope is it? And once she’s gone, once she’s dead, then you’ll understand how I feel, and you’d wished you hadn’t changed the rules.
Widmore: You’ll never find her. That island’s mine Benjamin. It always was. It will be again.
Ben: But you’ll never find it
Widmore: Then I suppose the hunt is on for both of us.
Ben: I suppose it is. Sleep tight Charles.)

  5. “i have a feeling that keamy takes ben off the island, locke moves it, and then ben cant find it again. ”

I’ve been thinking this too, that Locke moves it and Ben can’t find it again. I can’t figure out how Ben gets off the island, though. Why do you think Keamy takes him off?

  6. you know, that all the frieghter people said that the plane was found at the bottom of the sunda trench, and that all the passengers were found there.. dead…

i wonder what the O6 told the reporters and stuff…

  7. when is the podcast coming out?

  8. are you making a podcast?

  9. New podcast for 4.12 is up ! If anyone is having trouble getting it, please let me know and I will repost.
