LOST 5.08 LaFleur (Sawyer/Juliet)

Juliet sees Sawyer

Juliet sees Sawyer

The show opens with a party in a Dharma station (with many TV monitors like the Pearl station).  Some girl who isn’t usually allowed in there, sees Horace drunk out by the sonic security fence.  He is blowing up dynamite which alarms the other two dudes there.  They debate whether to wake up LaFleur.  They seem intimidated by him.  They go to his cabin to wake him.  It’s Sawyer. He and Miles get Horace and bring him home.  His wife or girlfriend says they had an argument and it was about Paul.

Three years earlier, Sawyer leads them from the well (now filled in with rocks) to the beach.  They find Daniel still mourning over Charlotte.  Her body stayed at the time she died, but Daniel and the rest time traveled to the past.  Daniel says he “won’t tell her” – meaning he won’t tell young Charlotte not to return to the island.  So as they go to the beach they run across Amy the woman we met earlier.  She is with Paul (her husband) at a picnic. Some men from Richard’s group interupt and threaten them.  The men kill her husband Paul over their breaking of the truce.  Sawyer and Juliet shoot the men.  He tells Amy they shipwrecked.  They bury the men in order to keep the “truce” intact.

Juliet saves Amy who is having a breach birth.  They usually take women to the mainland to have their babies.

Horace asks Sawyer about the shipwreck and his expedition to find the Black Rock.  He tells Saywer he is not Dharma material and must leave with his folks by submarine which will take them to Tahiti.

While the others talk about the being in the Dharma camp, Daniel sees young Charlotte.  She waves to them.  He says they are spinning like a record but are not on the right track.

Alarms sound.  Richard enters the camp to discuss the truce.  Sawyer asks him if he buried the bomb.  He says they are waiting for Locke to return and will show him the bodies they buried.  In return Sawyer must  give Richard dead Paul as as proof.  Horace who now trusts Sawyer gives him two more weeks to find his friends scatted on the island.

ITS 1974 and Juliet wants to leave the island by submarine.  Sawyer tells her just to wait two weeks, he does not want her leave.  3 years later and she and sawyer are getting ready for meal.  He gives her a flower.  They say they love each other and kiss.

Horace wakes up from hangover.  He missed the birth of Amy’s son.  He was jealous over Paul.  Is three years long enough to get over someone, he asks.  Sawyer had a shot at Kate and thought about it every night.  Now Kate’s face is gone from his memory.  Sawyer says 3 years is long enough to get over someone, referring to Kate.

The next day or so, he gets a call while in bed with Juliet.  Its Jin and he has found Jack, Kate, and Hurley on the island.  Sawyer goes out to meet them.  Kate and Sawyer smile at each other.  Now what is Sawyer going to do?

Analysis:  Where I try to sort out the timelines.

First Scene is by the Well:  It had disappeared .  So this was some time before the Dharma initiative got there.

They look up and see the full version of a 4 toed statue.  It may not be the same one we saw in Season 2 at the coast.  Maybe there were many statues on the island in the ancient past.

Then Locke turns the frozen wheel and he goes three years into the future.

Then Sawyer and Juliet etc go from the ancient past into the late 70’s early 80’s.  From then on we don’t really travel in time anymore, but we do have flashforwards and flashbacks.  All the scenes with Amy being pregnant happen in one time while Horace was drunk.  And all the scenes with Horace sober occurred in flashbacks.

Then after the submarine scene we jump three years forward to when the baby is born.  Sawyer tells Juliet she was magmificent (not sure for what, maybe for delivering the baby).

Soon thereafter Sawyer gets a call from Jin.  He found Kate, Jack and Hurley.  Sawyer meets them.  The End.

Gripe:  We saw Jin in the Dharma van out by a waterfall.  Did he drive to the nearest pay phone to call Sawyer?  No cell phones in the 70’s and early 80’s.

Juliet went from being a doctor to a mechanic to a doctor.  What agreement did she make with Sawyer and how did delivering a baby break the agreement?

Miles was working with Sawyer as a security guard, but what happened to Miles?  We can only speculate of course.

So Juliet lived in the same location in the late 70’s and then again in 2001-2004.  Did she remember living there in the 70’s when she lived there the second time?  If so, no wonder Juliet seems to know so much.

We know Horace dies later in the Purge.  Any ideas on what happened to break the truce that lead Richard and Ben to kill off the Dharma folks?

I hope you enjoyed this episode.  It was difficult to keep up with all the jumps in time perspective.  Now we know how the islanders feel during the flashes.

  1. I have to say that Lost is making less and less sense every episode. The writers keep adding these storylines that are backed up by nothing. It seems like none of the characters are really aware or care about how bizarre of a situation they are in. Why does John Locke need to die in order for the Oceanic 6 to come back to the island? Why do they need to come back to the island to save the others? Why do none of the characters ask any questions? I mean, we havn’t even really gotten a clear answer on what The Others were dong on the island, and Juliet is one of them. Why dosn’t she tell them in detail who exactly The Others are, what they were doing on the island, and all the details that she knows about the island. Why don’t the rest of them try to get more answers from her. Who are the Dharma initiative? Its obvious that they are doing research and stuff, but I just find it really strange how Sawyer and people don’t just ask them wtf is going on? It seems like none of the characters care about getting answers anymore. This show is pissing me off. Anyways, if you missed tonights episode, check it out online here…

…and try to see if my rant makes any sense to you.

  2. Interesting how Richard is awaiting the second arrival of John Locke. Almost like the second coming of the messiah.

How did Jin call Sawyer, he probably drove to the nearest Dharma station to make the call.

It seems that Sawyers crew have been living a lie, interesting it was the con-man who was able to pull it off.

When Locke fell down the well, Miles could have used his ability to judge whether Locke was dead or not.

Daniel must fight temptation to whether he should tell Charlotte or not.

  3. My theory is the truce had to involve the Jughead bomb in someway. As the Hostile’s didn’t have either the materials or technology to adequately dispose of the bomb properly. So they enlisted help from the Dharma Initiative to help bury the bomb, thus building the Swan station around it. My question is, does the Swan station’s button pushing every 108 mins discharge radiation from the bomb or discharge electromagnetism or move the island? Or could it be all the above.
